How do weight loss injections work, what benefits do they bring and are they safe?
Weight loss injection treatments should be seen as an essential component of a weight loss
journey that also includes a healthy diet and regular exercise.
UK licensed weight loss injections, like Mounjaro® and Wegovy®, are proven effective treatments to help control appetites. They mimic a natural hormone in your body called GLP-1, which signals to your brain that you’re full and should stop eating. By increasing this signal, GLP-1s can regulate your blood sugar and keep you feeling fuller for longer. Studies have
demonstrated that such injections are six times more effective at losing weight compared to exercise and healthy eating alone.
I recommend Mounjaro® as research has shown this is the most effective weight loss injection.
Mounjaro® and Wegovy® are both injection pens you use once a week which are easy to use and give you the right dose without needing measurements or syringes.
What other benefits do weight loss injections bring?
Help to prevent or reduce diabetes;
Help to prevent or reduce heart disease and blood pressure;
Help to prevent or reduce kidney and liver diseases;
Help to prevent or reduce joint pain;
Ongoing research on possible benefits re dementia, auto immune diseases and cancers;
Positive effects on mental health and wellbeing.

Weight loss injections have been approved by NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) but as with any medications, there are potential side effects:
Gastrointestinal; to help overcome this the injections are started at a low dose then titrated slowly.
The most common are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation; these symptoms can be discussed with expert advice given.
Pancreatitis; this is a rare side effect. If acute abdominal pain occurs you should seek prompt medical attention.
Anaphylaxis; if you experience difficulty in breathing, a rash or swelling to the face, lips or tongue, please call 999 immediately.
